Storm Glass with Hardwood Base Regular $79.99, Now Only $42.50 This fascinating instrument is a great conversation piece, and has been used for years to predict the weather.  Admiral FitzRoy used the storm glass in 1834 - 1836 on his historic voyage with Charles Darwin.  Ambient temperature affects the liquid's solubility, resulting in different formations of crystals.  The rate of temperature change also affects the crystal growth, so the storm glass crystals retain a recent history of temperature changes.  Two identical storm glasses in different cities at the same temperature will display different crystal patterns.  The sealed glass is not exposed to atmospheric pressure changes associated with weather systems.  The Admiral FitzRoy Storm Glass with Hardwood Base measures just under 6 inches (15 cm) tall, 2 1/4 inches (5.8 cm) in diameter, the hardwood base is 4 1/2 inches (11.5 cm) in diameter, and the Storm Glass weighs 15 ounces (426 grams).  Instructions for interpreting the crystal patterns are included. Tall Storm Glass Regular $59.99, Now Only $29.50 Admiral FitzRoy used the storm glass on his historic voyage with Charles Darwin.  The formation of crystals are used to interpret the weather.  If there are large flakes throughout the liquid, it will be overcast in temperate seasons or snowy in the winter.  Threads near the top indicate that it will be warming or windy.  If the liquid contains small stars on sunny winter days, then snow is coming.  If there are crystals at the bottom, this indicates frost.  A cloudy glass with small stars indicates thunderstorms.  If the liquid in the glass is clear, the weather will be bright and clear.  This Tall Admiral FitzRoy Storm Glass measures 10 3/4 inches (27.3 cm) tall, 1 7/16 inches (3.7 cm) in diameter, the glass base is 2 1/4 inches (5.7 cm) in diameter, and the Storm Glass weighs 10 1/2 ounces (297 grams).  Instructions for interpreting the crystal patterns are included.
