Brass Celestial Armillary Globe $40.00
This is a beautiful solid brass decorative antique reproduction of a Celestial Armillary Globe.
Celestial globes originated over four thousand years ago.
Greek, Chinese and Muslim astronomers were the first to develop this unique instrument.
Closely related to astrolabes and armillary spheres, celestial globes were based on a model of an outer sphere of stars and celestial bodies which circled the Earth.
The first models were built to attempt to represent the complicated celestial movements.
Over time, many features were added to the original models which included the equator, poles, rings and even more stars.
This enabled astronomers to predict star and constellation movements, and determine the precise time the sun would rise and set.
This decorative reproduction of a celestial globe includes the names of the 12 astrological signs engraved into the globe in Arabic letters.
The outside lid, which opens up half-way, is intricately engraved with the signs of the Zodiac and is printed with Arabic letters on the outer rim.
The globe is made from solid brass, not brass-plated steel, and sits on three elegant legs.
It has a rich antique patina which will not tarnish nor show fingerprints.
The Celestial Armillary Globe measures 5 inches (12.7 cm) in diameter, 3 5/8 inches (9.2 cm) tall, and the center hollow globe sphere is 2 1/2 inches in diameter (6.35 cm).
The Celestial Globe weighs 1 pound, 6 ounces (0.63 kg).
We also offer a Solid Brass Astronomical Armillary, five Demonstrational Armillary Spheres, four
Astrolabes and a Universal Equinoctial Sundial.
The Brass Celestial Armillary Globe sells for only $40.00.
